A thigh lift, or thighplasty, can enhance the appearance of your thighs by reducing sagging skin and excess fat. A thigh lift is distinct from liposuction of the thigh in that incisions are made to remove excess skin. In addition to effective thigh contouring, board-certified plastic surgeon Jon Kurkjian, MD performs inner or outer thigh lifts to provide the lower body with a more proportionate shape. Eliminating this excess fat and skin can also help resolve conditions such as skin rashes and infections in the area of the inner thighs.
Thigh Lift Benefits
The thigh lift procedure at our practice is carried out to:
- Remove excess fat and skin stored in outer or inner thighs
- Reduce skin infections and rashes caused due to excess skin
- Tighten sagging skin
- Firm and shape outer thighs
- Eliminate drooping and sagging skin resulting from weight loss
- Enhance overall thigh contour
How a Thigh Lift is Performed
Incisions are made either in the anterior groin and/or the inner part of the thigh. Excess fat is removed through a combined procedure of surgical excision and liposuction so that the skin is reshaped to improve leg contour. The surgical procedures used for both inner thigh lift and outer thigh lift surgery will depend on the type and the amount of correction required in specific areas.
Your Initial Consultation
At the initial consultation, Dr. Kurkjian will discuss your cosmetic goals and make sure they can be realistically achieved. He will also evaluate your health status to determine your preoperative medical risks. After examining the area of concern to assess the extent of excess fat and skin, he will decide on the ideal liposuction technique—power-assisted liposuction (PAL), or ultra-sound assisted liposuction (UAL)—to achieve your goals. In addition to all this, Dr. Kurkjian will tell you about the potential risks and benefits associated with thigh lift surgery.
Thigh lift is performed under general anesthesia. Mild swelling and pain in the legs can be expected for several weeks after the surgery. This discomfort can be managed with the prescribed pain medications. The average recovery time for a patient is between 3- 6 weeks.
